Moniter

Moniter, a 1939 Monk Sr Long Range Trawler. The history, as we have bean told of this boat starts in a shipyard in Vancouver British Columbia. the boat was designed by Monk SR. for a large lumber Baron from the Northern California area. He was to use the boat for travels between his lumber camps along the Pacific Coast form California to British Columbia. As far as known that the boat was finished in tine to be in the San Francisco bay area for the 1939 Worlds fair and to this day through many owners a souvenn card table from the faire has been handed down. I am not sure as to the total number of owners that she has had. We do know that in 1961 she was gone through and had a 180 horsepower cat put in at that time the bow was modified by Defever and flare put to it. In 1981 she was taken to the Aj,ierican Somoas via Hawaii. She also has been to Hawaii one other time. Our understanding that it takes her approximately 2 and half weeks to get there. The present cruising range is approximately 2500 miles at an average speed of 7.5 knots at 1200 rpm. Our present hope is to upgrade some of her systems and take her down the coast to Mexico, Costa Rica, through the Panama canal, to Belize. We have upgraded her for our own generator and air compressor for filling scuba tanks, new water maker and computer navigational aids. Front Selize it is possible we might take the run to the Caribbean, via the Cayrnan Islands. This would leave us open to return from our travels back to the Gulf coast or up the East Coast of the united States. We are now in the delta area of California and plan to have our refitting done next summer. We would love to correspond with any and all Monk owners and to carry the Monk burgee up high on our travels. We especially want this because from all of our research on the Monitor it does seem to be the very first monk full pleasure cruise trawler done by Monk Sr. The truly unique design always attracts guestions and looks, we would like to be able to tell folks about the Monk club. Respectfully, John and Kathy (See club roster for their email address.)
